what is a head injury?

A head injury is caused by many contributors but has resulted in some type of blow to the head. The damages that are suffered because of a head injury can be lifelong conditions that range from mild to severely disabling. When a head injury is suffered because of another person’s negligence the head injury victim has rights. The costs associated to treating a head injury can be extensive, including hospital and doctor bills, medication, therapy, and other factors that can last for the duration of that person’s life.

Some head injury patients may not realize the damage that has been done and will not seek a medical evaluation. A closed head injury, or a head injury lacking an actual physical appearing wound to the head, may be dismissed. Failing to seek treatment immediately, the head injury can worsen and cause more damage. It is important to realize that a head injury, if treated immediately, has a better chance of having a lesser negative effect. Especially when the head injury causes a loss of consciousness for more than a few minutes, head injury medical attention should be immediate. In addition, in instances of serious head injury, early treatment can help with loss of brain functioning.
