what is a closed head injury?
A closed head injury is an injury to the head that is caused by something hitting it or from the head hitting an object. In a closed head injury, opposed to an open head injury, there is no damage to the skull but just to the brain. Closed head injuries will go untreated at a higher frequency than a closed head injury because there is the absence of a physical injury.
When any form of a head injury is suffered, including a closed head injury, immediate medical attention should be sought. In the absence of appropriate treatment for a closed head injury, the damage is left to sometimes worsen and cause physical, mental, and psychological symptoms to progress. Depending on the area of the brain the closed head injury has affected can be seen in the symptoms suffered. The severity of a closed head injury will vary, but some closed head injury patients will experience a permanent, debilitating functioning.
